Report: Dolphins have been aggressive with trade talks, aren’t giving up on season

The Miami Dolphins reportedly have been aggressive in trade talks and aren’t giving up on the 2024 season despite their 2-6 record.

The Dolphins have lost three games in a row – including two with Tua Tagovailoa back in action – to fall behind the New York Jets (3-6) and Buffalo Bills (7-2) in the AFC East.

Miami currently holds the No. 12 seed in the AFC, and NFL.com gives the Dolphins just a 3.0 percent chance to make the playoffs this season.

On Sunday, after Miami’s heartbreaking loss to Buffalo, wide receiver Tyreek Hill claimed that the Dolphins have to “win out from here on out.”

The Dolphins have been a playoff team in each of the last two seasons, but they have been dealt some unfortunate injury luck this season.

Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in Week 2 against Buffalo, and Miami proceeded to go 1-3 in the four games that he missed. He returned in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals with the Dolphins sitting at 2-4, but Miami lost that game by one point.

In Week 9, the Dolphins suffered another close loss, as Buffalo kicked a long field goal in the final seconds to win the game.

Still, it appears that the Dolphins believe in their core around Tagovailoa this season. It’s unclear if the Dolphins will actually end up making a win-now move and orchestrate a trade, but if they don’t move any players it’s certainly a vote of confidence in the current roster.

The Dolphins have some winnable games coming up on the schedule, as their next three opponents – the Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots – are all .500 or worse this season.

In fact, both the Raiders and Patriots only have two wins, and the Dolphins already beat New England earlier in the 2024 campaign.

The 2024 NFL trade deadline is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. EST. It will be interesting to see if the Dolphins add any talent to help this roster make a playoff push in the final weeks of the 2024 season.
