The Miami Dolphins escaped with a critical win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, but it came at a cost, with multiple players suffering injuries.
Dolphins safety Jevon Holland left the matchup with a hand injury, and he was seen wearing a cast after the game. In addition, according to Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald, Holland and his teammates were discussing surgery.
While that certainly isn’t confirmation that Holland will need surgery, it appears to be something that could be on the table. If he does need surgery, the hope will certainly be that it won’t sideline him for the remainder of the season.
Before leaving the game with his injury, Holland had four solo tackles and one pass defended. He entered the day with 10 solo tackles, seven assisted tackles, one pass defended and one forced fumble in four games this season.
The Dolphins walked away with a 15-10 win over the Patriots on Sunday in a defensive battle. It was a refreshing defensive performance from Miami after the team entered the day having allowed at least 24 points in three straight games.
Although the Dolphins still struggled offensively without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, they did enough to get back in the win column and pump some life into their season. They’re now 2-3 and may only need to survive one more game without Tagovailoa.
Miami will now get to enjoy its bye week before getting back to work in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts. Tagovailoa will be eligible to return in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals, although it hasn’t been confirmed that he will be ready.
Holland’s situation, meanwhile, will be worth monitoring in the coming days. The fourth-year pro, who has been a frequent starter for the Dolphins since they drafted him in 2021, would be a notable loss for Miami if he were to miss extended time.
But all things considered, the Dolphins took care of business in a must-win game on Sunday, something that the entire organization (Holland included) must be happy about. Now, the focus shifts to getting healthy and clawing back into the playoff picture.
