Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill seemed to react in jest to a rumor indicating that former Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton was spotted at a Dolphins practice.

It’s unclear if Newton truly did attend a Miami practice.ย At the moment, the Dolphins are navigating some turbulence at the position that Newton played in the NFL. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is down with a concussion, so Skylar Thompson is expected to be the team’s starting signal-caller against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

The Dolphins recently added quarterback Tyler Huntley in light of Tagovailoa’s injury.

Newton hasn’t played in the NFL for a few years now. He most recently logged eight games and five starts during a reunion stint with the Panthers โ€” the team that drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2011 NFL draft โ€” in the 2021 regular season.

The 35-year-old spent 11 seasons in the NFL, and an overwhelming majority of that time was spent with the Panthers. He enjoyed his most successful seasons in the league during his first stint with Carolina, even earning league MVP honors at one point with the Panthers.

It didn’t take Newton long after he was drafted to establish himself as a great quarterback at the highest level, either. He totaled a career-high 4,051 passing yards to go along with 21 passing touchdowns in his first season en route to the Rookie of the Year award.

The only other NFL team Newton played for was the New England Patriots, and he spent just one season โ€” the 2020 season โ€” in New England.

In his one season as New England’s starting quarterback, he logged 2,657 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns in 15 games for a New England squad that finished with a 7-9 record on the season.

It’s unlikely that Newton will suit up for the Dolphins anytime soon, but if he did attend a Dolphins practice, one can hope that he was in Thompson’s ear to help prepare him for Miami’s upcoming matchup against Seattle.

Thompson will attempt to help the Dolphins pick up their second win of the 2024 regular season on Sunday.
