Report: Miami Dolphins officially announce several roster moves

3 Min Read

The Miami Dolphins organization revealed on Tuesday that it has formally made multiple tweaks to its roster ahead of the team’s Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

First โ€” and perhaps most importantly โ€” Dolphins star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been placed on the injured reserve almost a week after he sustained a concussion against the Buffalo Bills. That means the earliest that Tagovailoa will be able to return to the field for Miami will be in the Dolphins’ Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Also, Miami has signed a quarterback in light of Tagovailoa going down with his injury by bringing in Tyler Huntley. Huntley earned a Pro Bowl nod with the Baltimore Ravens in the 2022 regular season after he accumulated 658 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and 31 first downs passing across six games played and four starts with the squad.

On top of signing Huntley, the Dolphins have also signed tackle Jackson Carman to the team’s practice squad. Carman โ€” a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft out of Clemson University โ€” played in all 17 of the Cincinnati Bengals’ games during the 2021 regular season. However, he logged just five appearances in the 2022 and 2023 regular seasons combined.

Finally, Miami made one other tinkering to its practice squad. The Dolphins have cut ties with wide receiver Robbie Chosen. The 31-year-old played in both of the team’s first two games of the 2024 regular season, but he only totaled five receiving yards on one reception against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Bills combined.

The Dolphins seem to be operating with the hope that quarterback Skylar Thompson will be able to hold down the fort for the injured Tagovailoa, as he will start against the Seahawks on Sunday.

He logged seven appearances (two starts) with Miami in the 2022 regular season and totaled 534 passing yards, 26 first downs passing, one passing touchdown and three interceptions. The Dolphins selected him with a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
