Former NFL linebacker Manti Te’o provided fans of the Miami Dolphins with a positive update on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after Te’o seemingly chatted with the signal-caller’s father.

The Dolphins on Tuesday placed Tagovailoa on injured reserve as he recuperates from a concussion that he received in Miami’s blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 12.

Tagovailoa will now be sidelined for a minimum of several weeks, as he won’t be eligible to return to game action until his team’s matchup versus the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 27, which is more than a month from now.

Last Thursday certainly did not mark the first concussion of Tagovailoa’s NFL career. He has now suffered three confirmed concussions as a member of the Dolphins.

Despite all of the head injuries that Tagovailoa has endured while playing football in recent years, he reportedly has no intention of retiring from the NFL.

Before Tagovailoa was sidelined with his concussion, he started both of the Dolphins’ first two games of the 2024 regular season, which came against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Bills.

In Miami’s season opener against Jacksonville, Tagovailoa starred from a passing perspective. He totaled 338 passing yards and one passing touchdown all while leading the Dolphins to a come-from-behind victory over Jacksonville.

But he was quite ineffective against the Bills before he left the game with his concussion. He threw three interceptions compared to only one touchdown. To boot, he totaled only 145 passing yards on 25 passing attempts.

Te’o’s update on Tagovailoa could mean that the quarterback is in good spirits and hopes to get back on the field for the Dolphins as soon as possible. Of course, when he does, his health will remain a major storyline.

In the meantime, the Dolphins are preparing for their Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks. They’ll try to navigate that matchup without their starting quarterback and get a win to move to 2-1 on the young season.
