Before the Miami Dolphins involved themselves in the situation, police officers reportedly intended to arrest wide receiver Tyreek Hill along with defensive tackle Calais Campbell after Hill was pulled over for a traffic stop on Sunday, which would have prevented the two from playing in Miami’s Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald said on “PFT Live” thatย the Dolphins organization made sure that Hill and Campbell weren’t taken in for booking, processing and other procedures that would’ve sidelined them for Week 1. He also mentioned that since the Dolphins are a major employer of off-duty Miami-Dade officers, that aided the team in the sticky situation.

The organization’s efforts to prevent Hill and Campbell from being arrested ultimately prevailed, as both players suited up in the Dolphins’ game versus the Jaguars on Sept. 8.

If Hill had gotten arrested, it’s anyone’s guess if other members of Miami’s offense would have picked up the slack enough to win the game. Hill carried Miami’s offensive attack in stretches throughout the game, as he finished with 130 receiving yards, the most of any player on the team (Jaylen Waddle finished with the second-most receiving yards at 109).

Campbell might not have been one of the stars of the game like Hill was, but he still made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball. The team’s oldest player had three solo tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss in his regular-season debut as a Dolphin.

Hill and Campbell both contributed to the Dolphins’ win in their season opener, and they will try to help the team to its second victory in a row on Thursday night, when Miami will take on the Buffalo Bills.

There has been a wide range of reactionsย following the incident that unfolded on Sunday.ย The Dolphins’ efforts to ensure that Hill and Campbell weren’t arrested show that the franchise cares deeply about its players.ย Hopefully, Miami won’t have to step in and defuse a similar situation again anytime soon.
