Report: Stephen Ross makes massive business decision that will impact Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is making a major business decision at 84 years old, according to reports.

Ross is stepping down as the chairman of Related Companies, a global real estate development firm that he founded over 50 years ago.

In doing so, he will turn his attention to a different project. He will lead his own development firm — known as Related Ross — and focus on the South Florida market.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Ross also plans to focus more of his time on the Dolphins and Formula One.

Ross remains the largest shareholder in Related Companies.

“I have a real passion for building — companies, communities and cities,” Ross wrote in a letter to colleagues. “It’s why I started this company 52 years ago and it’s what fuels me to this day.”

Ross has Related Companies to thank for his new project. He is taking the firm’s Related Southeast division and turning it into his new firm, Related Ross. It would appear that he isn’t building his new project entirely from scratch.

The most relevant part of this news for Dolphins fans is the fact that Ross may now be involved more with the franchise. Some fans may view that as a positive development while others may view it as a negative one.

The knock against Ross from a football standpoint is that the Dolphins haven’t enjoyed much success since he became the owner of the franchise. In fact, Miami hasn’t won a playoff game during the Ross era.

The billionaire focusing more of his time on the Dolphins could be a positive thing if he helps the team get where it needs to go, but some fans may feel like less involvement is better from an owner who hasn’t experienced much on-the-field success during his tenure.

Fortunately, the Dolphins do appear to be trending in the right direction, as they’ve made the playoffs in two straight seasons and will look to make it three in the 2024 campaign.

Ross clearly has something left in the tank if he’s taking on a new challenge at his current age, and it will be interesting to see what the news means for all of the different projects he’s involved in.
