Miami Dolphins long snapper Blake Ferguson is weighing in on a political issue close to him, defending former president Donald Trump in a social media debate over the price of insulin.
False. Trump capped insulin prices. In your first week in office, your administration took away the cap. Then you reinstated it, and are taking credit for it. Shameful.
At least get your information right, social media intern. https://t.co/Sg23hplHtP

Ferguson has type 1 diabetes, a condition that requires him to use insulin to treat the disease. Despite the condition that was diagnosed when he was 13 years old, he has been able to establish a successful career in the NFL. The Dolphins selected him in the sixth round (No. 185 overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Louisiana State University, and prior to the 2023 NFL season, he signed a contract extension that runs through the 2026 campaign.
“My mom loves to tell the story all the time…the moment that I was diagnosed back in 2011,” Ferguson said. “As we’re headed to the hospital from the doctor’s office, she caught me looking at my phone at famous athletes with type 1 diabetes because I wanted to know that I could achieve playing football at the highest level with this disease.”
The 27-year-old took to social media to respond to a recent post on the account of President Joe Biden referencing a cap on the price of insulin. Ferguson maintains that it was Trump who was the one who capped insulin prices before the policy went through some changes during the current Biden administration.
Though debating politics on social media is more often than not a no-win proposition, that did not stop Ferguson from engaging in this exchange of ideas.
It is just one of many key issues that will be on the mind of the electorate as the 2024 presidential election approaches this coming November. Ferguson likely will have other things on his mind by then as the Dolphins will be in the midst of the 2024 NFL season by the time the election rolls around.
The team has other more pressing issues to deal with prior to the start of the season, with the contract status of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa chief among them. That also has become a popular subject on social media, with star wide receiver Tyreek Hill among the most vocal about his desire for his QB to get the new contract he feels he deserves.
Perhaps some outside-the-box thinking put to use by head coach Mike McDaniel will help the Dolphins ultimately end their long playoff-victory drought and change the conversations on social media to on-the-field success rather than non-related off-the-field topics like the one Ferguson chose to become involved in.
