Albert Wilson thanks Dolphins for ‘changing my family’s life forever’ as he retires from NFL

Albert Wilson is thanking the Miami Dolphins for “changing my family’s life forever” as the wide receiver announces his retirement from the NFL.

The 31-year-old played his final three seasons for the Dolphins, with his last being the 2021 NFL campaign. He arrived for the 2018 season and opted out of the 2020 campaign that was altered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his time with the Dolphins, he made 94 receptions for 955 receiving yards and five touchdown catches in 34 regular season games.

His signature performance came against the Chicago Bears on Oct. 14, 2018, when he made six receptions for 155 receiving yards in a 31-28 victory. He made two game-tying touchdown receptions in the fourth quarter, the first a 43-yard grab and the second a 75-yard connection with quarterback Brock Osweiler. Miami eventually triumphed in overtime on a field goal by Jason Sanders.

Unfortunately, Wilson played just one more game that season before landing on injured reserve with a hip injury.

An undrafted player out of Georgia State University, Wilson played his first four seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs, who also received his gratitude in the social media post. He debuted in the 2014 NFL season and totaled 124 receptions for 1,544 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches in 26 regular season games with the Chiefs. He also appeared in four playoff games with Kansas City, making 11 receptions for 95 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

In 2022, he spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders but never made it back into an NFL game.

A Florida native, Wilson was a standout quarterback for Port St. Lucie High School.

This offseason, the Dolphins have added to their receiving corps by signing Odell Beckham Jr. to a one-year contract that could be worth up to $8.25 million. The 31-year-old reportedly turned down more money elsewhere after playing last season for the Baltimore Ravens.

Beckham will join stars Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle at wide receiver as the Dolphins look to return to the NFL playoffs for a third straight season and earn their first postseason victory in almost 25 years.
