Miami Dolphins rookie doubles down on warning to NFL teams

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright doubled down on his warning to opposing NFL teams for letting a talented Miami team snag him with the No. 120 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

“I’m going to remind these teams why they shouldn’t have passed [me up],” Wright said. “They let a great team get a dawg. That’s on them.”

Back in late April, Wright took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and suggested that rival teams in the NFL will regret passing up on the youngster and allowing him to land with the Dolphins.

Wright wasn’t the only rookie to issue a warning to the rest of the NFL after getting drafted by Miami. Pass rusher Mohamed Kamara, who was drafted with the No. 158 overall pick, seems to think he should have been drafted in an earlier round than the fifth one.

Wright played three seasons of college football at the University of Tennessee. During that time, he totaled 2,297 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns to go along with 171 receiving yards on 30 receptions.

A large portion of the 21-year-old’s rushing yards during his career with the Volunteers came during his third and final season with the team, the 2023 season. He appeared in 12 games and totaled 1,013 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns while averaging 7.4 yards per carry.

Wright totaled 100 or more rushing yards in half of the 12 games he played during his swan song with the Volunteers. His most productive game of the season from a rushing yards standpoint came in a victory over Texas A&M University on Oct. 14, when he ran for 136 yards on 19 rushing attempts, which equates to 7.2 yards per carry.

His second-best rushing performance of the season occurred on Sept. 30 against the University of South Carolina. Wright accumulated 123 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in a win for the Volunteers.

Wright was ranked the fifth-best running back prospect by former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew ahead of the 2024 draft, and the Dallas Cowboys reportedly were smitten with Wright.

Dolphins fans will have to wait until the start of the 2024 season to see if Wright will make opposing NFL teams rue their decisions to pass up on him, but fans of the team should be encouraged by his mentality.
