Report: Odell Beckham Jr. rejected chance to make more elsewhere to join Dolphins

On Friday, it was reported that former Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. would be signing with the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal worth up to $8.25 million.

According to additional information regarding the news, Beckham took less money to join than Dolphins than he could’ve received elsewhere in the league.

The news is both a testament to Beckham’s value at this point in his career as well as the quality of the Dolphins roster and organization at the moment.

It seems like Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel played a big role in Beckham’s decision to join Miami.

Last season, Beckham played with the Baltimore Ravens, logging 35 catches on 64 targets for 565 yards and three scores. The numbers pale in comparison to earlier seasons in his career when he was widely considered one of the most dominant receivers in the league.

However, even if Beckham just replicates that kind of production with the Dolphins this season, signing him will likely be considered a success.

The one-time Super Bowl champion will surely be the Dolphins’ No. 3 receiver on the roster behind superstar Tyreek Hill and budding star Jaylen Waddle.

The two returning stars both had monster seasons last year. Hill dominated all season long with 119 receptions for 1,799 yards and 13 scores. He tied his career-high for receptions while setting his career-high for receiving yards.

As for Waddle, he added 72 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns.

Thanks to all the talent in the wide receiver room, it stands to reason that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is going to have a big season.

That’s good news for a Dolphins team that had a good, but not great campaign last season. They finished the season with an 11-6 record, good for second place in the AFC East.

Unfortunately, that finish resulted in a wild card showdown against the defending, and ultimately repeating, Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Dolphins lost that wild card matchup, 26-7.

Clearly, the Dolphins are looking to reload and build upon that success in the upcoming season. Their offense is sure to be a high-powered unit once again, and time will tell if that helps them get over the hump and back to the promised land.

Having Beckham on the roster surely can’t hurt.
