Report: Miami Dolphins hoping to sign Odell Beckham Jr. after positive meeting

The Miami Dolphins’ meeting with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Thursday reportedly went well. The Dolphins also reportedly hope to sign the three-time Pro Bowler to a contract.

The meeting with Beckham comes after the team reportedly expressed interest in the former Baltimore Ravens receiver.

The Ravens released the veteran wideout this offseason after one season with the team. During the 2023 season, the former Offensive Rookie of the Year appeared in 14 regular season games, making six starts for a team that ended up finishing with the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

Beckham was targeted 64 times, making 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season as a Raven. Even though he surpassed his receiving yards total from the 2021 season (the last full season he played in), Beckham’s role was reduced for the Ravens in the playoffs.

During the playoffs, Beckham made just four catches on seven targets in the team’s two games (against the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs). The Ravens reached the AFC Championship Game, but they lost to the Chiefs – who also knocked Miami out of the playoffs – 17-10.

Adding Beckham to the roster would be a big move for the Dolphins, as it would give the team another proven threat on the outside alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

In his NFL career, Beckham has five seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards and three seasons with double-digit touchdown receptions. While he may not be the same player that he was when he first entered the NFL as a first-round pick, Beckham could still contribute to Miami’s high-octane attack.

Injuries have slowed Beckham’s career, as a torn ACL that he suffered in the Super Bowl while with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 season cost him the entire 2022 campaign. Still, he showed with Baltimore that he can still make an impact – even in a smaller role.

The veteran receiver also has a lot of playoff experience, helping the Rams defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 Super Bowl by making two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown before exiting that game with the aforementioned knee injury.

If the Dolphins and Beckham can agree on a deal that works for both sides, it would be a solid upgrade to the weapons around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
