Per FOX 4, a man from Kansas City, Mo. by the name of Joseph Brown Sr. has been charged with stealing more than $45,000 worth of equipment from the Miami Dolphins organization in January of this year.

More specifically, earlier this week, prosecutors from Jackson County charged Brown with a class C felony charge of stealing.

Court documents indicate that police officers responded to the crime back on Jan. 14. Officers talked to a Dolphins representative, who claimed that a box truck — which contained some equipment for the team — was broken into.

Also according to court documents, four aqua blue equipment cases, three large equipment cases, gloves, shoes, football pads, miscellaneous media equipment, five Pelican cases containing media equipment, cold weather gear, hockey bags with coats inside of them and game film were reportedly among the items stole from the box truck. The stolen items were valued at $46,376 in total.

Detectives tracked down surveillance footage of a dark grey vehicle, which has been identified as the suspect’s car, a Ford-F150.

Police officers located the car and noticed that it had equipment boxes that matched those that were stolen from the Dolphins’ box truck. The driver reportedly sped away when the police drove over to the vehicle.

The incident in question isn’t Brown’s only run-in with the law in regard to stealing, as he was reportedly convicted of stealing back in 2021 as well.

Brown’s bond has reportedly been set at $50,000 in cash.

The Dolphins are fresh off a very successful 2023 regular season, as the team ended up with an 11-6 record, which was tied with the Buffalo Bills for the top record of any squad in the AFC East division. The Bills won the division, though.

Miami wound up losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs in January by 19 points.

It will be interesting to see if Brown ends up receiving a punishment for stealing so much money’s worth of equipment from the Dolphins a few months ago.
