Latest Miami Dolphins move may open door for something bigger

Miami Dolphins linebacker Bradley Chubb is the latest player to have his contract restructured by the team, and the move could be a step toward something even bigger for the Dolphins.

Dolphins insider Barry Jackson shared more information.

“They’ve shown interest in at least two players who would command deals more than a bit over the minimum, per sources,” wrote Jackson. “Whether deals with these types of players materializes remains to be seen.

“The Dolphins are still looking for a No. 3 receiver, another veteran guard, another edge rusher or two, more backup defensive backs and another defensive tackle.”

Miami has had to make some tough decisions this offseason, letting go of some talent and getting creative financially in order to improve the team’s cap situation. However, it’s clear that the Dolphins have other goals beyond simply satisfying their cap needs, as the squad has added some pieces and may not be done yet.

It appears that Miami wants to leave the door open for some moves that would be newsworthy, although it’s tough to say who exactly is at the top of the team’s wish list. Dolphins executive Chris Grier has earned a reputation as someone who isn’t afraid to take big gambles, so that’s something worth keeping in mind.

After reaching the playoffs in two straight years but failing to secure a postseason victory, the Dolphins are likely anxious to take a step forward in the 2024 campaign. There’s certainly some doubt, however, as to whether or not that’s in the cards, as the upcoming season could end up being more of a transition year for the team.

The restructuring of Chubb’s deal likely won’t have any impact on his production this coming season. In the 2023 campaign, he led the league in forced fumbles with six. He also totaled 11 sacks, 22 quarterback hits and 73 combined tackles.

The two-time Pro Bowler is set to be an important piece for the Dolphins once again in the 2024 season, and it’s possible that the restructuring of his deal will lead to the team giving him some extra help on the defensive side of the ball.

There is still plenty of time left in the offseason, and Miami sounds like a team that the NFL world may want to keep an eye on.
