Connor Williams’ agent offers update on center’s chances of re-signing with Miami Dolphins

Connor Williams reportedly has no plan to re-sign with the Miami Dolphins anytime soon, with his agent saying the center is focused on his medical situation as he recovers from a serious knee injury suffered last season.

Williams did not play again after he tore his ACL in the Dolphins’ game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 14 of the 2023 NFL season. He missed Miami’s last four games of the regular season and its playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Dolphins have signed offensive lineman Aaron Brewer already this offseason. He started 17 games at center for the Tennessee Titans last season but has played other positions along the line as well. He reportedly received a three-year, $21 million contract from Miami.

Williams himself moved from guard to center during his two seasons with the Dolphins. The 26-year-old is one of three starters from Miami’s offensive line who became a free agent after the season, along with Robert Hunt and Isaiah Wynn.

Hunt reportedly agreed to terms on a five-year contract worth $100 million from the Carolina Panthers, but Wynn – like Williams – remains on the market as he is coming back from a quad injury that ended his 2023 season.

The Dolphins reportedly are re-signing offensive lineman Robert Jones, who could have been a restricted free agent, to a one-year contract. In addition, veteran Terron Armstead has reworked his contract to provide some salary cap relief, meaning the veteran will return after considering retirement.

After entering the offseason facing some significant salary cap concerns, the Dolphins have been busy so far, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

On offense, in addition to Brewer, they are adding are tight ends Jonnu Smith and Jody Fortson and have agreed to bring back wide receiver Braxton Berrios.

After moving on from Xavien Howard, Jerome Baker and Christian Wilkins on defense, they are adding several players, including cornerback Kendall Fuller, linebacker Jordyn Brooks and defensive lineman Neville Gallimore in an effort to replace them.

The Dolphins still have some work to do, however, as they will try to get back to the playoffs for a third straight season and finally win a postseason game for the first time in more than 20 years.
