Jonnu Smith sends message to Tyreek Hill after signing with Miami Dolphins

Jonuu Smith is wasting no time interacting with his new Miami Dolphins teammates, with the tight end exchanging messages on social media with Tyreek Hill.

Smith signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Dolphins after playing this past season with the Atlanta Falcons. He could give a boost to a position that lacked production for Miami last season while also taking some defensive attention away from wide receivers Hill and Jaylen Waddle in the passing game.

Smith could be entering an interesting situation with the Dolphins if recent comments from Hill are any indication. The All-Pro receiver implied teammates at times curse each other out and hold grudges after a bad play rather than communicating to try to help each other improve.

The Dolphins were the only team in the NFL to not have a touchdown catch by a tight end this past season. Durham Smythe led their tight end group with 35 receptions for 366 receiving yards.

Smith made three touchdown receptions for the Falcons as part of his career-high 50 catches and 582 receiving yards. The 28-year-old played his first four NFL seasons for the Tennessee Titans and had eight touchdown receptions in the 2020 campaign. He played the next two seasons for the New England Patriots before joining the Falcons, who let him go late last month as a cost-cutting move.

The Dolphins have been making similar moves as well to deal with their own salary cap situation. They have parted with Xavien Howard and Jerome Baker and did not use the franchise tag on Christian Wilkins on the defensive side of the ball.

While they reportedly maintain an interest in re-signing Wilkins, they also are in talks with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on a contract extension that could be worth more than $50 million per season.

Furthermore, they are watching offensive linemen Connor Williams, Robert Hunt and Isaiah Wynn become free agents.

There are several areas of the team that still need to be addressed, but by adding Smith to the mix at tight end, the Dolphins are already off to an active start this offseason.
