Report: Ex-Miami Dolphins DB facing several misdemeanors due to 6-vehicle crash

Former Miami Dolphins defensive back Tim McKyer reportedly was arrested after he crashed into multiple cars in a Florida condominium parking garage.

Now 60 years old, McKyer played for the Dolphins during the 1990 NFL season. He played in the league for 12 seasons and is a three-time Super Bowl champion, twice with the San Francisco 49ers and once with the Denver Broncos. He last played in the NFL in the 1997 season.

A resident of Riviera Beach, Fla., McKyer reportedly is facing five misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. He has been released on his own recognizance.

The report said McKyer crashed his vehicle into five parked cars in the garage, four on one level and one on another. His Tesla also was damaged. He told the officer he was unaware the accident had occurred and was taken to a hospital to be medically cleared.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the police report said McKyer’s breath had the smell of alcohol.

The Florida native played high school football in Texas before playing at the University of Texas at Arlington.

A third-round pick (No. 64 overall) in the 1986 NFL Draft, he started all 16 regular season games for the Dolphins during the 1990 NFL season after playing his first four seasons with the 49ers. He had four interceptions and made 44 combined tackles for Miami during his lone season there, when the Dolphins went 12-4 under head coach Don Shula. They lost in the second round of the AFC playoffs to the Buffalo Bills.

During his career, McKyer also played for the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers. He made 33 interceptions and scored two touchdowns in his 170 regular season games and had four interceptions in 19 playoff contests.

He is the second athlete with ties to the Miami area to be involved in a legal matter involving a car accident recently. Current Miami Heat player Haywood Highsmith reportedly is facing a lawsuit from a man who had part of his leg amputated following a crash involving Highsmith earlier this month.
