Report: Miami Dolphins undergo tons of changes to coaching staff

The Miami Dolphins have made even more tweaks to their staff following the news that the team and former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio mutually agreed to part ways.

Kolby Smith interviewed for the Jackson Jaguars’ available running backs coach position this week. Smith and the Dolphins recently parted ways.

Additionally, offensive assistants in Ricardo Allen and Mike Judge along with assistant special teams coach in Brendan Farrell won’t return to the Dolphins next season.

The Dolphins are also reportedly expected to lose defensive line coach Kenny Baker.

Smith, Allen and Judge helped the Dolphins be one of the NFL’s most dynamic offensive teams this season. The team averaged a whopping 29.2 points per game during the 2023 regular season, which was the second-highest average of any team in the NFL, behind only the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dolphins also put together one of the best scoring performances in NFL history against the Denver Broncos back on Sept. 24 of last year. Miami scored a whopping 70 points and racked up 726 total yards in a game they won by 50 points. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill were two of the team’s top performers against the Broncos.

Tagovailoa threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns compared to zero interceptions. Also, he completed 23 of his 26 pass attempts during the game.

As for Hill, he totaled 157 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown on nine receptions in what was one of his best games of the season.

Miami’s 70 points against the Broncos is tied for the second-most points in a single game by one team in the history of the league. The Washington Redskins have the record, as they scored 72 points all the way back in November of 1966.

It’s interesting that the Dolphins are tweaking their coaching staff so drastically on the offensive side of the ball after all of the collective success that Miami enjoyed on that end this season.

Considering the Dolphins now have multiple openings on their coaching staff, it’s possible that fans will see the team being linked to several coaches who are still looking for jobs in the days ahead.
