Terron Armstead’s latest words could spell bad news for Miami Dolphins

The latest words from Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead could spell bad news for the team.

“I love the game,” Armstead later added. “The moment I stop having fun with it, I’ll be done with it. I’m having a blast. I love it. I love what we’re building.

“I’m chasing a ring. That’s the only reason I’m playing. I want to win a Super Bowl. That’s the only reason I’m playing football.”

Armstead has a lot of mileage on him. He is 32 years old and has been playing in the NFL ever since the New Orleans Saints drafted him back in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

The left tackle has played for just two teams — the Saints and Dolphins — during his time in the pros.

He has accomplished a whole lot in the NFL from an individual standpoint. He has been one of the better players in the league at his position for some time now, as he has earned Pro Bowl nods in all but one of the past six seasons, with the exception being the 2021 regular season.

Recently, Armstead earned a Pro Bowl nod with the Dolphins after playing in 10 of the team’s 17 games during the 2023 regular season.

Armstead played in the team’s wild-card matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, but his presence didn’t lead to a great performance from Dolphins quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa ended up with 199 passing yards against the Chiefs — a far cry from his regular-season average of 272.0 passing yards per game — and threw the same number of interceptions as he did touchdowns (one).

Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes, meanwhile, threw for 262 yards and one touchdown while completing 23 of his 41 passing attempts.

The Dolphins went on to lose to the Chiefs on the road by 19 points. The Chiefs will now play either the Buffalo Bills or Houston Texans in the divisional round of the playoffs. Kansas City will be on the road if they play against the former and at home if they take on the latter.

If Armstead opts to retire from the NFL, it would be a huge blow to the Dolphins, as he has earned Pro Bowl nods in each of his two seasons with the team and is still a productive player despite his age.
