Dallas Cowboys star offensive tackle Tyron Smith has reportedly been ruled out for the team’s upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Eve.
Smith is in his 13th season in the NFL — all as a member of the Cowboys franchise — since the team drafted him with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He has started in each of the 11 games he has appeared in with Dallas during the 2023 regular season.
The 33-year-old has long been one of the better tackles in the NFL. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated eight Pro Bowl selections as well as two All-Pro nods. Plus, he earned a spot on the Pro Football Hall of Fame All-Decade Team for the 2010s.
Like the Dolphins, the Cowboys have also enjoyed a successful 2023 regular season to this point. At 10-4, they are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles — who are riding a three-game losing streak — for the best record in their division, the NFC East.
However, the Cowboys did lose in their most recent game against the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 17. Quarterback Dak Prescott had a forgettable performance for Dallas in the team’s 21-point loss, as he threw for just 134 yards and also threw one interception compared to zero touchdowns.
The Dolphins hold an identical record to the Cowboys at 10-4 and are fresh off a resounding victory over the New York Jets on Dec. 17. Miami beat New York by a final score of 30-0 behind a standout showing from wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Waddle totaled 142 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown on eight receptions for the Dolphins.
Considering the Dolphins will take on the Cowboys at home on Christmas Eve and Dallas will be without one of the better players in the league at his position in Smith, Miami is in a prime position to pick up its second win in a row.
Following their matchup against the Cowboys, the Dolphins will play the Baltimore Ravens on the road on Dec. 31.
