Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III clowned the haters of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during the team’s win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Griffin highlighted Tagovailoa’s impressive passing ability after he found Tyreek Hill for a long touchdown against New England. The 42-yard touchdown pass was one of Hill’s eight catches on the day.
Tagovailoa, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has proven since the start of last season that he can be the team’s quarterback of the future.
During the 2022 season, Tagovailoa threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 13 games.
He also led the NFL in yards gained per pass attempt and yards gained per pass completion. While he missed time due to multiple concussions, he was extremely effective when he was on the field.
This season, Tagovailoa has shown that it wasn’t a fluke. He entered Sunday’s game against New England with 2,092 yards, 15 passing touchdowns and just six interceptions in seven games.
He also entered the day leading the NFL in yards gained per pass attempt and yards gained per game.
The former University of Alabama star had a huge showing against the Patriots, completing 30 of his 45 pass attempts for 324 yards, three touchdowns and just one interception. He also added six carries for eight rushing yards.
Griffin evidently believes not only that Tagovailoa can throw the deep ball, but also that people should stop criticizing him so much.
The Dolphins are now 6-2 on the season and a perfect 4-0 at home through their first eight games. The team is atop the AFC East standings.
Tagovailoa’s ability to throw the ball down the field has really allowed Hill to thrive, and on Sunday, the star wideout became the first player in NFL history to have 1,000 or more receiving yards in the first eight games of a season.
Hill’s ability to stretch the field and Tagovailoa’s ability to find him when he’s open have made the Dolphins one of the most lethal offenses in the league.
The squad will look to keep that going in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs and star Patrick Mahomes.
