Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has a message for NFL fans.
Earlier this season, fellow Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was on the receiving end of a tough no-call on a play where some thought he did enough to draw a pass interference penalty against the New York Giants.
This past weekend, a similar play occurred when the Los Angeles Chargers met the Kansas City Chiefs, with Travis Kelce benefiting from a pass interference call against the Chargers.
Some took the play in the Chargers-Chiefs game as evidence that the Dolphins should have gotten a call during the Waddle play against the Giants, but Hill seemed to have a more levelheaded view.
Hill hasn’t needed much help from referees to be successful this season. The seven-time Pro Bowler is enjoying perhaps the best year of his NFL career, as he currently leads the league in receiving yards (902) and receiving touchdowns (seven).
Waddle, meanwhile, has had a choppier season, due in part to the fact that he’s been banged up a bit at times. He has 359 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns in the 2023 campaign.
Miami’s elite receiving core remains a crucial part of its identity, something the team will need to ride in order to get back on track this season. The Dolphins lost in Week 7 to the Philadelphia Eagles, amplifying concerns that their 5-2 start may simply be a product of weak competition.
The squad will get a chance to put that narrative to rest in Week 9 against the Chiefs, but not before an important Week 8 battle against the New England Patriots. Those are the final two games for the Dolphins before their bye week, and they’d certainly love nothing more than to be 7-2 heading into their week off.
The Dolphins still have a one-game lead over the Buffalo Bills for the top spot in the AFC East.
Controversial calls often balance out over the course of a full season, so Miami probably isn’t losing any sleep over the way its games have been officiated. The squad could end up on the receiving end of some beneficial whistles in the near future.
