De’Von Achane’s likely return date revealed by Miami Dolphins in optimistic update

The Miami Dolphins have caught a break on the De’Von Achane front as the rookie is reportedly likely to miss no more than the four games he has to sit out after being placed on injured reserve.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the running back will make his return in time for the Dolphins’ Week 11 bout against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Texas A&M University product has been a revelation for Miami this season. After falling to the third round of the 2023 draft, he has so far outperformed expectations, recording seven rushing and receiving touchdowns in the first four games.

In addition, his 460 rushing yards is second in the NFL only to Christian McCaffrey’s 510 yards. Impressively, Achane has only had 38 carries.

He also took home AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 3 after he finished with 203 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the Dolphins’ 70-20 beatdown of the Denver Broncos.

Unfortunately, Achane sustained a knee injury during his squad’s Week 5 victory over the New York Giants, against whom he scored a 76-yard rushing touchdown.

He is set to miss Miami’s bouts against the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. While the matches against the struggling Panthers and Patriots still look winnable without Achane, playing against the Eagles on the road and Chiefs at a neutral location looks daunting.

Week 10 is the team’s bye week, so the 22-year-old can hopefully take advantage of the extra time to rest and recover.

The Dolphins will surely miss the youngster’s services in the coming weeks. They have had a stellar season so far, placing first in the AFC East with a 4-1 standing. The 3-2 Buffalo Bills, who defeated Miami in Week 4, are in second place.

Thankfully, veteran Raheem Mostert appears ready to cover for Achane’s absence. Through the season’s first five weeks, Mostert has tallied eight total touchdowns while taking 58 carries for 314 yards. He has also caught 15 passes for 128 yards.

Chris Brooks and Salvon Ahmed might also see some time behind Mostert, while Jeff Wilson Jr. has already been ruled out for the game against Carolina on Sunday.
