Miami Dolphins catch huge break ahead of Week 3 matchup vs. Denver Broncos

The Miami Dolphins will take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday with the hope of improving to 3-0 on the season. The Dolphins have caught a huge break ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Broncos, as safety Justin Simmons and outside linebacker Frank Clark have already been ruled out for Denver.

Simmons was selected with the No. 98 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after four seasons playing college football at Boston College. He racked up 22-plus solo tackles and 34-plus total tackles in each of his four seasons as a member of the Eagles.

Arguably Simmons’ best season of college football came during his senior season, the 2015 season. The 6-foot-2 safety finished with 49 solo tackles, five interceptions and two forced fumbles in 12 games played with the Eagles as a senior.

Simmons has played eight seasons in the NFL, all as a member of the Broncos franchise. He totaled a league-best six interceptions and 42 solo tackles across 12 appearances with the Broncos during the 2022 regular season (all starts).

The 29-year-old’s contributions on the defensive side of the ball didn’t translate into a whole lot of wins for the 2022 iteration of the Broncos, though. They finished the regular season with a poor 5-12 record, the worst record of any team in the AFC West.

Meanwhile, Clark was selected with the No. 63 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft following a four-season stint playing college football at the University of Michigan. He accumulated 16-plus solo tackles and 25-plus total tackles in each of his final three seasons as a member of the Wolverines.

The 6-foot-3 outside linebacker has played for three teams — the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Broncos — across his nine seasons in the NFL. He ended up with 25 solo tackles and one forced fumble in 15 games played with the Chiefs during the 2022 regular season (all starts).

The Dolphins have a great chance to improve to 3-0 on the season, considering two of the Broncos’ top defenders won’t be playing on Sunday. Here’s to hoping that the Dolphins will continue their winning ways against the Broncos.
