The Miami Dolphins and fullback Alec Ingold have come to an agreement on a three-year contract extension worth up to $17.2 million. Ingold is now the highest paid fullback in the AFC, as this extension puts him ahead of Patrick Ricard of the Baltimore Ravens.
Before joining the NFL, the 6-foot-1 fullback played four seasons of college football at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Ingold started out his college career at the running back position. During his freshman season, the 2015 season, he ran for 131 yards and six touchdowns in eight games played with the Badgers. Additionally, he totaled 49 rushing attempts as a freshman.
The 27-year-old spent his final three seasons of college football playing the fullback position, however. After lackluster sophomore and junior seasons, Ingold established himself as one of the better fullbacks in the nation during his senior season with the Badgers, the 2018 season.
Ingold put up solid numbers in his final season in Wisconsin. He finished with 143 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, as well as 93 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown in 11 appearances with the Badgers during the 2018 season.
Ingold has played for two teams — the Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders — across his four seasons in the NFL. He racked up 105 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown to go along with eight rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in 17 games played with the Dolphins during the 2022 regular season (14 starts).
Arguably Ingold’s best season in the NFL came during the 2020 season when he was a member of the Raiders. He finished with a career-high 110 receiving yards and averaged 9.2 yards per reception in 16 appearances during the regular season (four starts). His longest reception that season was for 23 yards.
The Dolphins seem to have made the right decision by inking Ingold to a three-year extension, even though it’s a very lucrative one. After all, he is fresh off a rock-solid 2022 regular season with Miami, and at 27 years old, his best football is likely still ahead of him.
