Report: Jeff Wilson Jr. lands on IR as Miami Dolphins announce plethora of roster moves

On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins announced a plethora of roster moves.

They have placed running back Jeff Wilson Jr., cornerback Jalen Ramsey and offensive lineman Robert Jones on injured reserve. Additionally, the Dolphins have signed cornerback Justin Bethel, tight end Tyler Kroft and cornerback Parry Nickerson.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel offered some insight as to what went into the decision to place Wilson on injured reserve. Wilson, Ramsey and Jones will all miss at least four games.

Wilson, 27, has played for two teams — the San Francisco 49ers and Dolphins — across his five seasons in the NFL. He ran for 392 yards and three touchdowns in eight games played with Miami during the 2022 regular season (one start).

The running back also played eight games with the 49ers during the 2022 regular season and put up better numbers than he did with the Dolphins. Wilson ran for 468 yards compared to 392 and averaged an impressive 58.5 rushing yards per game.

Meanwhile, Ramsey, 28, was selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and has played for two others teams — the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams — across his seven seasons in the NFL.

The 6-foot-1 cornerback is fresh off arguably the best season of his pro career, as he put up monster numbers with the Rams during the 2022 regular season. He finished with four interceptions, two forced fumbles and a career-high 64 solo tackles in 17 games played with Los Angeles (all starts).

Those numbers were good enough for Ramsey to earn a Pro Bowl selection, the sixth of his NFL career.

Ramsey’s contributions didn’t translate to a whole lot of wins for the Rams, however. They finished the 2022 regular season with a subpar 5-12 record, the second-worst record in the NFC West division, ahead of only the Arizona Cardinals, who ended up with a 4-13 record.

Here’s to hoping that Wilson, Ramsey and Jones don’t stick around on injured reserve for very long. After all, the start of the 2023 NFL regular season is around the corner, as it is just a week away.
