Report: Former Miami Dolphins defender facing 7 charges after hitting 4 cars, gate and light post

Former Miami Dolphins defensive end Robert Quinn is facing seven charges after hitting four cars, a gate and light post in Summerville, S.C.

“Summerville police have charged Robert Quinn with third-degree assault and battery, hit-and-run with property damage, and four counts of leaving the scene after a traffic incident,” Blair Sabol and Kevin Bilodeau wrote.

“Police report that Quinn turned himself in on Friday morning and later attended a bond hearing at Summerville Municipal Court. Quinn was given a $155 personal recognizance bond.

“In total, Quinn is facing seven charges.

“Neighbors in the Carrington Chase community, off of Miles Jamison Road, reported they witnessed a driver, who has been identified as Quinn, hit four cars, a gate and a light post.”

More than 11 years ago in July of 2012, Quinn was reportedly involved in a single-car crash in the state of Missouri and was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving without insurance.

Quinn, 33, was selected with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and has played for five teams — the Los Angeles Rams, Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles — across his 12 seasons in the NFL. He totaled 10 tackles in 13 games played for the Bears and Eagles during the 2022 regular season (seven starts).

Quinn’s best season as a pro came during the 2013 season when he played for the Rams. He put up monster numbers during the regular season, as he forced seven fumbles, accumulated a career-high 19 sacks and led the NFL with 23 tackles for loss. These numbers were good enough for the 6-foot-4 defender to finish fourth in the 2013 NFL AP Defensive Player of the Year voting.

The former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill star spent just one season as a member of the Dolphins, the 2018 season. Quinn ended the regular season with 6.5 sacks (a team-high), 38 tackles, 25 solo tackles and two forced fumbles. He started all 16 games for a Miami team that finished with a 7-9 regular-season record and missed out on the postseason.

Following Quinn’s 2018 season with the Dolphins, the team traded him to the Cowboys in March of 2019 in exchange for a 2020 sixth-round draft pick.

Considering Quinn’s a free agent, a bit long in the tooth and is facing criminal charges, his future in the NFL is very much up in the air at this juncture. It’s possible that the 2023 Super Bowl will be the final game he plays in his NFL career.
