Report: Multiple Miami Dolphins players suffer injuries in practice as Terron Armstead leaves on cart

The Miami Dolphins may have another Pro Bowl player to worry about due to injury, with offensive tackle Terron Armstead taken off the sidelines on a cart after hurting his right leg on Thursday.

Armstead is arguably Miami’s best offensive lineman and was named to the Pro Bowl last season, his first with the Dolphins. He was also named to the Pro Bowl three years in a row with the New Orleans Saints.

Armstead and the Dolphins were facing the Houston Texans in a joint practice when the injury occurred. During an 11-on-11 drill, the 32-year-old fell to the ground but was able to limp off the field. He was taken away on a cart after several minutes on the sidelines.

It’s a discouraging development for a player whose career has been marred by injuries. Last season, he reportedly played through a foot injury that drew a recommendation for surgery that would have ended his season. He also appeared on the injury report with toe and pectoral injuries. Despite those issues, he missed only four games.

Armstead also suffered multiple injuries with the Saints in 2021 and missed nine games. The veteran has played more than 14 games in an NFL season only once, and one veteran scout said he has fallen from elite status because of all of his ailments.

Despite that, he was a team captain and last season and certainly made a big impact.

Practice also was jolted Thursday when Dolphins defensive tackle Brandon Pili was shaken up. Trainers were reportedly examining the back of his neck.

Armstead joins cornerback Jalen Ramsey as another top Dolphins player who has been injured during training camp. The 28-year-old newcomer suffered a knee injury during an early practice and required surgery, but his recovery seems to be going well.

The injuries come with the Dolphins expected to contend for the AFC East title, which they have not won since the 2008 season. They also are trying to make the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since the early 2000s.

To do so, they would love to be at full strength, so they must hope that the injury suffered by Armstead does not turn out to be very serious.
