Report: Miami Dolphins signing former Minnesota Vikings safety, release 2 rookies

The Miami Dolphins announced on Wednesday that they have waived rookies Michael Turk and Bennett Williams.

In some more roster news, the Dolphins are reportedly signing safety Myles Dorn, who spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

If Williams clears waivers, he will revert back to the Dolphins’ injured reserve list. The University of Oregon product was seen at practice on Tuesday with a compression sleeve on his leg, so perhaps he’s dealing with a pretty serious injury in that area.

As for Turk, no injury was reported. It was always going to be difficult for him to beat out veteran punter Jake Bailey for the starting job. Bailey is a one-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro selection who joined the Dolphins this offseason after spending the first four seasons of his career with the New England Patriots.

Turk reportedly had several teams interested in his services after going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and was aiming to continue the legacy of his uncle Matt, who had two separate stints with the Dolphins.

It’ll be interesting to see if Michael Turk is able to find his way onto another NFL team. There are also plenty of other professional football leagues across the world for him to try his luck in.

As for Williams, fans will have to wait to see what exactly his injury is. Hopefully it doesn’t keep him out of action for too long. He spent three seasons at Oregon after two seasons at the University of Illinois. During his collegiate career, he registered 106 solo tackles, 10 passes defended, six tackles for loss, eight interceptions and three forced fumbles.

Miami recently got some bad injury news after star cornerback Jalen Ramsey was injured in late July. His recovery from knee surgery appears to be going well.

Even without Ramsey, the Dolphins still have tons of talent on their roster. They should still be contenders in the AFC East and battle for a playoff spot.

Last season was the team’s first playoff appearance since the 2016 campaign, and it is now looking to make the postseason in back-to-back campaigns for the first time in more than 20 years.
