Jeff Wilson Jr. explains how joining Miami Dolphins last season was ‘match made from heaven’

Jeff Wilson Jr. made a solid impact for the Miami Dolphins during the 2022 campaign after being acquired in a midseason trade from the San Francisco 49ers.

Wilson is back for more with the Dolphins after signing a two-year deal with the team this offseason. He recently explained why joining the team last season was a “match made from heaven.”

“It was kinda smooth I would say because…obviously we had couple guys that I was familiar with in the locker room already,” Wilson said. “And those guys were kinda…good outlets for me or good resources for me to the other guys to let them know kinda who I was and what I was about. And so, once they did that, and then I came in, and they seen how I work and then how I play — shoot, it was just like a match made from heaven.”

In eight games with the Dolphins last season, Wilson registered 84 carries for 392 yards and three touchdowns. His best outing came against the Cleveland Browns when he ran the ball 17 times for 119 yards and one score.

Wilson is a 6-footer and weighs around 200 pounds, so he isn’t an easy man to tackle. He broke nine tackles on rushes last season, tied for 23rd in the NFL in that department.

He offers a different style of play from teammate Raheem Mostert, who was Miami’s leading rusher last season. However, something interesting to note is that Mostert broke 16 tackles himself last season, which was ninth in the league.

Right now, Mostert and Wilson figure to eat up most of the carries for the Dolphins this coming season. Third-round rookie De’Von Achane could also see a decent amount of playing time and is generating tons of buzz.

It’s also worth noting that Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook has been linked to the Dolphins for a while now. If he were to join them, that would surely change things up drastically in the backfield.

Going into the 2023 campaign, Miami is looking to improve upon a 9-8 season and first-round playoff loss against the Buffalo Bills. Expectations are very high in South Florida, and the team has a real shot at making some noise in the playoffs.

Wilson will surely do everything in his power to help his team accomplish just that.
