Report: Miami Dolphins have made offer to Dalvin Cook

The Miami Dolphins reportedly have made an offer to free agent running back Dalvin Cook.

Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason, and both he and his agent have made positive comments about the Dolphins.

The Dolphins certainly could use a player of Cook’s caliber on offense, but they do have a crowded running back room at the moment.

The team drafted De’Von Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft (No. 84 overall), and it also brought back four running backs from last season’s team – Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr,. Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed.

With all of those players in Miami already, it’s likely at least one of them would be let go before the 2023 regular season if Cook were to sign with the team.

Last season, Cook recorded his fourth straight 1,000-yard rushing campaign for the Vikings, but he did average the fewest yards per carry of his career (4.4).

Overall, the veteran running back carried the ball 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight rushing touchdowns.

A former second-round pick, Cook would bring a dynamic style of play to Miami. He’s not only a strong runner, but he excels in the receiving game as well, making him one of the best dual-threat backs in the NFL.

He has made at least 34 receptions in every season since his second year in the league. In the 2022 campaign, Cook had 295 receiving yards and two receiving scores.

The Dolphins could end up in a bit of a bidding war for Cook depending on how other teams value him, but it doesn’t seem like the veteran is in a rush to sign a new deal.

Miami is looking to do anything it can to improve the team from the 2022 season when it lost in the first round of the playoffs. A concussion suffered by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa doomed Miami, as both he and Teddy Bridgewater (the team’s top two quarterbacks) were unavailable to start the playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.

If Cook does sign with Miami, he’d join an offense already loaded with talented playmakers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
