Report: Miami Dolphins add offensive line depth by signing former 1st-round pick

The Miami Dolphins announced that they have signed offensive tackles and former first-round picks Isaiah Wynn and Cedric Ogbuehi.

Miami reportedly brought Wynn in to compete with Austin Jackson for a tackle spot this season, and it appears Ogbuehi will be a part of the mix as well.

The Cincinnati Bengals selected Ogbuehi in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft with the No. 21 overall pick. He played four seasons with the Bengals, starting 25 of the 35 games that he appeared in.

Since then, Ogbuehi has bounced around the NFL, playing for the Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets. He played in seven games (five starts) for the Jets in the 2022 season.

With Terron Armstead entrenched at one of the tackle spots for Miami, the team appears to be creating a competition for the other spot and some backup positions on the offensive line.

Wynn, who played with the New England Patriots prior to signing with Miami, started 40 of the 43 games he appeared in with the Patriots, but he has played 10 or fewer games in three of his four NFL seasons due to injuries.

Ogbuehi gives the team insurance in case both Wynn and Jackson go down in the 2023 season.

Pro Football Focus (PFF) gave Ogbuehi a 47.7 grade for his play with the Jets in the 2022 season. While that is not great, the veteran surely still has some of talent that made him worthy of such a high selection. The Dolphins are hoping to tap into some of that potential this offseason.

It’s smart for the Dolphins to gather as much offensive line depth as they can, especially since Armstead and Jackson both dealt with injuries in the 2022 season.

Miami needs to have solid pieces in the trenches in order to keep Tua Tagovailoa out of harm’s way. In the 2022 season, Tagovailoa suffered two confirmed concussions that sidelined him for a good chunk of the campaign.

As the Dolphins continue to get through the offseason and closer to training camp, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top among Ogbuehi, Wynn and Jackson.
