Chris Jones says NFL ‘saved’ Miami Dolphins by scheduling game vs. Kansas City Chiefs in Germany

It’s no secret that Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was looking forward to returning to Arrowhead Stadium this coming season to face his old team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

But on Wednesday, the NFL announced scheduling details for a handful of games this season, and the Dolphins won’t be traveling to Kansas City after all. Instead, they’ll face the Chiefs in Germany in Week 9.

Since the Dolphins-Chiefs matchup was expected to be a home game for Kansas City, Miami seems to be catching a small break by having the game scheduled at a neutral site. The way Chiefs star Chris Jones sees it, the NFL “saved” the Dolphins with the scheduling decision.

Jones seems to be just having a little fun with Hill.

In addition to learning about the Week 9 game, the Dolphins also found out on Wednesday that they’ll be facing the New York Jets in Week 12 on Black Friday. That will be the first Black Friday game in NFL history, as the date typically is dominated by college football.

Regardless of the location of the Dolphins-Chiefs matchup, it’s a safe bet that there will be plenty of juice heading into that game. Hill will undoubtedly be motivated to put on a show against his former team, and there’s a chance that the matchup will feature two of the top teams in the AFC.

It’s worth noting that since the game will be played at a neutral site, the Dolphins will only have seven true road games this season. They’ll get nine games at home, seven on the road and one at a neutral site.

That’s a nice advantage for the squad, and it’ll certainly look to cash in. In the 2022 regular season, the Dolphins went 6-2 at home and 3-6 on the road. They didn’t play any neutral site games.

Hill accomplished a lot during his time with Kansas City, but when the Dolphins face the Chiefs this coming season, none of that will matter. Miami is certainly glad to have the seven-time Pro Bowler on its side.

The full schedule for the 2023 NFL season will be released on Thursday.
