Report: Rookie running back accepts minicamp invites from Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs

With the 2023 NFL Draft in the books, teams across the league are looking to bring in undrafted rookie free agents. The Miami Dolphins have been signing many undrafted rookies, beefing up their roster as the offseason wears on.

While many undrafted rookies have signed on with teams, there are still plenty of players hoping to get chances to impress franchises.

Teams will have rookie minicamps pretty soon, and it seems like the Dolphins have been handing out some invites to players. Former Harvard University running back Aidan Borguet has reportedly accepted an offer from Miami to participate in its minicamp.

It’s important to note that Borguet has also apparently accepted an offer from the Kansas City Chiefs to attend their rookie minicamp.

The New Jersey native seems to be a popular player, as he reportedly received invites from the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints as well.

Borguet had a solid career for the Crimson, carrying the ball 412 times for 2,429 yards and 25 touchdowns across 30 games. He averaged a solid 5.9 yards per carry. He didn’t offer much in the passing game, as he only caught 11 passes for 133 yards and one touchdown in his collegiate career.

“Borguet is compactly built with a powerful base and an ability to power through arm tackles,” wrote NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein. “While he displays pretty good vision and can get to his cuts once he’s past the line of scrimmage, a lack of suddenness and excessive dancing is likely to work against him versus NFL speed.”

A powerful runner, Borguet doesn’t really have top-end speed, but that wouldn’t necessarily hurt him on the Dolphins. Miami already has very quick running backs on the roster in Raheem Mostert and Devon Achane, who was drafted by the team in the third round of this year’s draft.

Given the depth the Dolphins have at running back already, it seems like Borguet might have to really wow the team’s coaching staff during minicamp.

There’s always a chance he could end up on the practice squad when it’s all said and done.

NFL teams are allowed to hold development programs for rookies for a period of seven weeks during the offseason. Teams are allowed to begin those programs on May 15 this year.

During that stretch, no practices are allowed on weekends, with the exception of a rookie minicamp, which can be held during either the first or second weekend after the draft.

Borguet will undoubtedly use his chances with the Dolphins and Chiefs to prove that he belongs in the NFL.
