Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa gave a positive update on how his offseason has been progressing.

The former first-round pick is excited to get back on the field after missing the end of the 2022 season with a concussion.

“Woooo. I’m very excited,” Tagovailoa said when asked about how pumped he is to get back to football.

Last season, Tagovailoa played the best football of his NFL career, partly because of the addition of Tyreek Hill to Miami’s offense. Tagovailoa threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 13 games during the regular season.

He also led the NFL in yards gained per pass attempt and yards gained per pass completion.

The Dolphins picked up Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option on his contract, tying him to Miami for at least the next two seasons. The University of Alabama product is focused on getting better this offseason after an impressive 2022 campaign.

“Offseason training’s been good,” Tagovailoa said. “Been working on strength in many areas and been chipping away at things that I felt like that I needed to work on to get to where I feel I can get to in the later parts of the season.”

While the numbers for Tagovailoa were great in the 2022 season, the team does have some concerns about his health.

Tagovailoa missed a few games this past season because of the two concussions he suffered. The first one came in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and the second was in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers.

It’s important that Tagovailoa keeps himself healthy, especially since head injuries could lead to permanent damage for him long after his career in football. Still, it doesn’t seem like those injuries have taken away his love for the game.

Miami made the playoffs last season, but the team lost in the first round to the Buffalo Bills. With Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater both injured, Miami was forced to start rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson in the final game of the regular season and the team’s playoff game.

To protect themselves in the event of another Tagovailoa injury, the Dolphins signed former New York Jets quarterback Mike White in free agency this offseason.

The Dolphins are hoping that a healthy and rejuvenated Tagovailoa will take them to new heights in the AFC in the 2023 season.
