Report: Miami Dolphins signing wide receiver Braxton Berrios to 1-year deal

The Miami Dolphins reportedly are signing former New York Jets wide receiver Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal.

Berrios, 27, spent the past four seasons with the Jets, but he was released by the team earlier this offseason. The move gives Miami another option in the receiving game alongside Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill.

A sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2018 NFL Draft, Berrios played his collegiate football at the University of Miami. Now, he gets to return to South Florida as a professional.

During the 2021 season, Berrios had a career year for the Jets, appearing in 16 games and receiving a career-high 65 targets and 46 receptions. He racked 431 receiving yards and two scores that season.

Berrios also showed that he can be a threat on the ground, rushing for two touchdowns in each of the last two seasons.

The 2022 season was a tougher one for the former Miami wideout, as he took on a smaller role with the Jets drafting Garrett Wilson in the first-round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Berrios played in all 17 games for the Jets, but he recorded just 18 catches, his fewest since his rookie season. He also had a career-high three drops in the 2022 season despite receiving just 32 targets on the season.

Hopefully, Berrios can bounce back in Miami with a potentially bigger role. He should see less attention with Waddle and Hill flanking him at receiver, and Tua Tagovailoa is a much better quarterback than anyone Berrios played with on the Jets.

The Dolphins had a strong passing offense in the 2022 season, especially when Tagovailoa was in the lineup. The former No. 5 overall pick led the league in yards gained per pass attempt and yards gained per pass completion last season.

Miami is building a solid offensive group after re-signing Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. this offseason, keeping its core intact from last season. The team also bolstered its offensive line on Thursday by signing Dan Feeney.

Berrios will look to add a punch to the team’s passing game and help the Dolphins get back to the playoffs in the 2023 campaign.
