The Miami Dolphins are wasting no time improving their roster this offseason, and in the months ahead, they’ll have plenty more opportunities to add key pieces.

Earlier this year, star safety Jordan Poyer made some waves by liking a social media post that linked him to the Dolphins. Now, he’s back at it again.

Poyer is a one-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro selection. Way back in the 2013 NFL Draft, he didn’t get picked until the seventh round, but he has established himself as a very good defender at the professional level.

This past season, he was very productive, but he was only able to appear in 12 games. He finished the campaign with eight passes defended and four interceptions.

In the 2021 season, he appeared in 16 games and totaled nine passes defended to go along with five interceptions.

It’s also worth noting that while he did miss time this past season, he has otherwise been pretty reliable from an availability standpoint in recent years. That’s a big plus for his value.

The veteran is a free agent this offseason and will certainly have no shortage of interest from teams around the league. It’ll be interesting to see just how competitive the market is for him.

Without question, Poyer would be another exciting addition for the Dolphins, but the team already has a lot of talent at safety. It may be better off focusing on other areas of its defense when adding talent this offseason.

As a whole, Miami’s defensive unit was lackluster this past season. The group allowed 23.5 points per game, the ninth-worst mark in the league. If the Dolphins want to emerge as legitimate threats to win the Super Bowl this coming season, they’re going to need their defense to take a legitimate step forward.

Poyer himself is still trying to win his first Super Bowl ring, so he’s likely looking to join a contender. It’s unclear just how realistic Miami is as a potential landing spot for him, but it does seem clear that he has some level of interest in joining the team.
