Report: Miami Dolphins land Philadelphia Eagles assistant who had ‘significant interest’ around league

The Miami Dolphins are making major changes to their defensive staff, and the team has now landed another fantastic coach that was reportedly on many other teams’ radars this offseason.

Joe Kasper is reportedly coming on as the Dolphins’ new safeties coach. He was reportedly garnering “significant interest” around the league, so it seems like a big win that the Dolphins are adding him to their staff.

There is little doubt that new Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio — who worked with the Philadelphia Eagles this past season — made the acquisition of Kasper easier.

Beyond that, Kasper will now get to work with one of the best young safeties in the league in Jevon Holland. Holland’s progression should take another step forward now that he’ll be working under a coach of Kasper’s quality.

Another big addition that the Dolphins made to their defensive staff came on Monday when it was announced that former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill will be part of Miami’s crew moving forward.

In a league like the NFL that is so star-focused, it can often be forgotten how important coaching is. But at the end of the day, it’s still a major key to success. That is why it is so great to see that Miami’s decision-makers are taking the defensive staff overhaul so seriously.

As positional coaching jobs continue to fill up for the Dolphins, the team will soon have to look at player personnel and any changes that need to be made on that front. There is always turnover in the NFL from one season to the next, and some players are likely on their way out this offseason.

Moreover, there are surely some exciting players that are on the Dolphins’ list of targets to pursue. There are definitely some areas on defense where the team can improve.

With any luck, Miami’s defensive line will be an area of strength. That may be key for Fangio’s basic defensive scheme. Fangio often depends on his defensive linemen to create adequate pressure so that linebackers, corners and safeties can work together to disguise their defensive packages and confuse opposing offenses.

All in all, things seem to be on an upward trend for the Dolphins defense. That’s great news for a team that will look to continue improving in the 2023 season.
