Heisman winner Caleb Williams wants to land with Miami Dolphins if he enters 2024 draft: ‘That’s probably my No. 1 spot’

If the Miami Dolphins have any interest in acquiring a top quarterback prospect in a future draft, one could argue that their search should absolutely start with Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams out of the University of Southern California.

Williams recently made it abundantly clear that he’d love to play for the Dolphins in the NFL.

“I like to be around younger coaches,” Williams told People regarding where he’d like to land if he entered the 2024 draft. “I’d probably go to the Dolphins. I also would be able to play with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Mike Gesicki. The defense isn’t bad. That’s probably my number one spot.”

In the eyes of many, the Dolphins have some uncertainty at the quarterback position going forward because the health concerns surrounding Tua Tagovailoa can’t be ignored.

The former first-round pick looked fantastic on the field during the 2022 NFL season, but he once again missed multiple regular season games due to injury. He has yet to play in more than 13 games in a single NFL season.

To make matters worse, his health concerns in the 2022 campaign were related to head injuries. Tagovailoa suffered two confirmed concussions during the season.

There were even some concerns that he wouldn’t be able to safely return to football, though those concerns have been quashed for now.

Either way, the Dolphins will likely have to start looking at other options at quarterback if Tagovailoa fails to stay healthy in the 2023 season. He’s a great player and wonderful person, but an NFL franchise can’t depend on a quarterback whose health is unpredictable. It’s a tough reminder that the NFL is first and foremost a business.

As for Williams, he is likely to be one of the prizes of whatever draft he enters. He was just a sophomore during the 2022 college season and still has multiple years of eligibility remaining. Still, there is an expectation that he’ll leave college after his junior year simply because his draft stock is already so high.

In his sophomore campaign, he threw for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns while coughing up just five picks in 14 games. He’s also a weapon on the ground, rushing for 382 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

With all this in mind, Williams will likely be far out of reach for the Dolphins unless their 2023 season is a complete disaster on the field. Williams is sure to be a top pick, and he may very well be the No. 1 overall selection by the time the 2024 NFL Draft comes around.
