Eric Fisher was farming in Kansas before signing with Miami Dolphins

Newly signed Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Eric Fisher was picking up farming before he was signed by the team to help replace the loss of tackle Austin Jackson.

“I’ve actually dabbled in quite a few different ventures in real estate,” Fisher said. “One of the things I was doing a little bit with a buddy in Kansas, was farming. I hopped on the combine, learned how to run a combine. Training in the morning and then picking corn and beans.”

Fisher, a former No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, was passing time after going unsigned for the beginning of the 2022 NFL season.

The Dolphins are fortunate that Fisher was out in free agency, as the team needed insurance at the tackle position behind Terron Armstead. With Jackson on injured reserve, there’s a real chance Fisher plays a role for the Dolphins at some point down the stretch of this season.

“I knew in my heart that I was going to come back,” Fisher said. “I just stayed on top of my stuff, stayed mentally prepared and was just waiting for the right opportunity.”

Eric Fisher’s impressive resume

A two-time Pro Bowler, Fisher last played in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts during the 2021 season. He started 15 games for the Colts, playing 89 percent of the team’s snaps.

Fisher was a part of the Kansas City Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl in the 2019 season. He’s been extremely durable in his NFL career, playing in at least 14 games in all but one of his seasons.

With the Dolphins on the brink of making the playoffs this season, the team wants to have proven backups and insurance options ready. Even though Fisher was spending his time with some new hobbies, the team clearly believes he can help down the stretch of the 2022 season.

Miami has a huge game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football in Week 14. The Dolphins are looking to keep the pace in the AFC East division after the Buffalo Bills beat the New York Jets on Sunday.

Fisher seems excited to be a part of the Dolphins offense once he is ready to contribute.

“It’s a really cool offense, high, high pace offense,” Fisher said. “Once I’m up to football speed, and in my prime shape, I think this is like a perfect offense for my abilities.”

With Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and others, Miami has a fun, young offensive group that has put up a ton of points this season.

The Dolphins have made a point of surrounding Tagovailoa with a better offensive line, signing Armstead in free agency this past offseason.

The addition of Fisher is just another step in that direction as the team prepares to make a playoff run in the 2022 campaign.
