Report: Teddy Bridgewater will miss Dolphins-Browns game due to flare-up with chronic knee issue

Miami Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater reportedly will miss the team’s Week 10 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

Bridgewater is dealing with a chronic knee issue, and due to a flare-up, it appears the Dolphins are holding their experienced backup quarterback out from the game.

Bridgewater’s absence means that seventh-round pick Skylar Thompson will serve as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup in Week 10. Luckily for Miami, Thompson has some NFL experience because of injuries to Bridgewater and Tagovailoa earlier this season.

In an ideal scenario, Bridgewater’s absence won’t have an impact, as the team hopes Tagovailoa will be out there for every snap against Cleveland.

However, should something happen to the Dolphins starter, Thompson has shown he is capable of handling the offense.

As for Bridgewater, the Dolphins are playing things safe rather than risking him being put in the game at less than 100 percent.

So far this season, Bridgewater has appeared in four games for the Dolphins, making one start. He was injured in his lone start in Week 5, leading to Thompson taking over.

Bridgewater has completed 61.7 percent of his passes this season for 522 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

This is an important game for Miami, as the Browns are a beatable team with Jacoby Brissett under center and Deshaun Watson still suspended.

The Dolphins have been one of the NFL’s best offenses, especially when Tagovailoa has been on the field. In Tagovailoa’s seven starts this season, the Dolphins are 6-1. The former first-round pick has thrown for 1,980 yards and 15 touchdowns in the 2022 campaign.

Tagovailoa is leading the league in yards gained per pass attempt, yards gained per pass completion and quarterback rating so far this season. He’s become a legit MVP candidate in his third NFL campaign, which is exactly what the Dolphins were hoping for after bringing in new head coach Mike McDaniel and star receiver Tyreek Hill.

The University of Alabama product is looking to keep Miami in the conversation to win the AFC East, as the Dolphins enter Sunday’s contest just half a game behind the Buffalo Bills in the division.

With Bridgewater out, Miami needs to make sure it keeps Tagovailoa protected against the Browns in Week 10.
