Report: Miami Dolphins willing to listen to offers for Mike Gesicki, aren’t shopping him quite yet

A new report indicates that the Miami Dolphins aren’t looking to trade tight end Mike Gesicki, but remain open to possibly making that happen.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler looked at possible deals leading up to the Nov. 1 NFL trade deadline and noted that the Dolphins are willing to listen to offers for the 27-year-old Gesicki.

“Sources say Miami is in the ‘we’re-willing-to-listen’ phase with Gesicki, but isn’t quite shopping his services to other teams,” Fowler wrote. “Execs I’ve talked to don’t want much to do with his $10.9 million franchise tag and find it odd Miami placed the tag on him in March to sit him on the bench.”

Prior to this season, Gesicki had developed into a solid part of the Dolphins’ passing attack. In his first four seasons with the team, Gesicki caught 199 passes for 13 touchdowns.

However, his role this season has diminished because of the addition of Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins’ receiving corps. Last year, Gesicki was targeted 112 times by Dolphins quarterbacks, but that number has dropped to just 19 in the team’s first six contests this season.

Gesicki came off the bench in the Dolphins’ first five games and made his first start in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He finished the afternoon with a season-high six catches, with two of those going for touchdowns.

After his first touchdown on Sunday, Gesicki did a celebration that drew plenty of critical comments.

Gesicki took note of the remarks and offered an amusing pledge for the future.

Gesicki’s future with the Dolphins may be clouded due to the trade rumors, which have popped up in the past.

During the offseason, the inability of Gesicki and the Dolphins to come to an agreement on a new deal led the team to apply the franchise tag on him.

The Penn State University product obviously believed he was worth more money than what the Dolphins were offering after a 2021 campaign in which he caught a career-high 73 passes. Though he only caught two touchdowns, he went past 700 receiving yards for the second consecutive season.

Considering his current salary, it’s doubtful that the former second-round pick is spending much time wondering if he’ll be traded by the Dolphins. Like his teammates, he’s no doubt focused on getting the Dolphins back on the winning track.

Following three straight losses, the 3-3 Dolphins will be at home on Sunday night when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are coming off an upset victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
