Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was recently fined for his actions in a dust-up with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen during the teams’ Week 3 matchup.

Wilkins was accused of grabbing Allen near the groin area. However, Wilkins is reportedly denying the allegation and planning to appeal the penalty.

“Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins plans to appeal a $13,261 fine for grabbing Bills quarterback Josh Allen near the groin area in a pile last Sunday — an act Wilkins denies, sources say,” wrote NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

“Allen was upset after the play, ripping off Wilkins’ helmet and drawing a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. That backed up a lengthy fourth-quarter drive ending in a turnover on downs in Buffalo’s 21-19 loss.

“Allen wasn’t fined.”

The altercation occurred during the fourth quarter of the contest, with Allen ripping off Wilkins’ helmet as part of the incident. That led to a penalty for the Bills that might have cost them the game.

It was a messy win for the Dolphins over their division rival. Buffalo was unbeaten going into the game. After some back and forth scoring in the first half, the defensive intensity turned up after halftime. Miami trailed by three points entering the last quarter then outscored Buffalo 7-2 in the fourth period to get a 21-19 win.

During a conversation with Kyle Brandt, Allen talked about the incident.

“It is what it is,” Allen said. “He is a competitor. He’s been known for that, going back to college. I should know that and shouldn’t let it get the best of me, but sometimes you see red and things like that happen. I’m not here to make any claims or throw anybody under the bus, but I shouldn’t have let the emotions get the best of me.”

For his part, Wilkins brushed off the fracas, stating that it was just two guys being very competitive.

“It just happens,” he said. “I mean, Josh is a competitor. I’m a competitor. The game’s on the line. We’re going back and forth. That’s just how it is.”

The victory over the Bills gave the Dolphins a 3-0 record.

Unfortunately, Miami could not remain unbeaten in Week 4. It lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 27-15. That contest was also marred by an ugly incident, as the team saw quarterback Tua Tagovailoa get stretched off the field with a heartbreaking injury.

The event has resulted in an uproar around the league, as many believe the rising star shouldn’t have played in Week 4.

Fans were likely delighted to hear that Tagovailoa was seemingly in good spirits after the game. He reportedly appeared outside the locker room walking on his own, smiling and talking while wearing a neck brace.

If the quarterback misses time, the team will likely need Wilkins and the rest of the defense to step up in order to make up for any potential lost production on the other side of the ball.
