Preston Williams says he just wants ‘opportunity’ amid tough competition in Miami Dolphins WR room

One of the unavoidable aspects of an NFL team getting better and acquiring talent from the outside is that homegrown players sometimes fall by the wayside.

According to a recent post on social media, it appears as though that may be happening to Miami Dolphins receiver Preston Williams.

Williams joined the Dolphins in 2019 when he signed with the team as an undrafted free agent. He had a solid rookie season in 2019, and it appeared as though the Dolphins had discovered a diamond in the rough.

He finished his rookie campaign with 32 catches for 428 yards and three scores. The following season, his production dipped a bit, but he did manage to catch four touchdowns despite seeing his receptions and yards on the season take a hit compared to those of his rookie year.

The 2021 season was his third in the NFL, and his usage and production took a steep decline. He finished the 2021 campaign with just six grabs for 71 yards and zero touchdowns.

Staying on the field has been a struggle for him so far in his NFL career. He has appeared in exactly eight games in each of his three seasons, meaning he has played in 24 total games in his career.

Based on the tweet he sent out on Monday, it seems like he isn’t thrilled with the looks he’s getting in training camp so far this year.

Given Miami’s additions to its receiving room during the offseason, it’s not all that shocking that a player like Williams is seemingly losing out on opportunities.

It’s another reminder that the NFL is an extremely tough business.
