Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins used some of his offseason time to host a football camp in Massachusetts.
Wilkins was joined at the camp by Detroit Lions linebacker Austin Bryant, who he played with at the collegiate level at Clemson University.
Hosting the camp was nothing new for Wilkins, who has made an effort to give back to the community where he first learned the game.
It was at Clemson where Wilkins truly made a name for himself and got the attention of the Dolphins. In the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected him with the 13th overall pick.
Over three seasons with the Dolphins so far, Wilkins has experienced some highs and lows. It was during his first year with the team in 2019 that a horrific start for the Dolphins was eased by a more uplifting finish to the campaign.
During Wilkins’ next two seasons, the Dolphins narrowly missed out on playoff berths. In the 2021 campaign, he had arguably his best season yet with 89 combined tackles and 4.5 sacks.
With Mike McDaniel now at the helm for the Dolphins, Wilkins is certainly hoping that the first-year head coach will be able to supply the missing ingredient needed to get the team to the postseason.
In Massachusetts, the hometown appeal of Wilkins certainly hasn’t waned and figures to get stronger in the years to come. Yet, it seems likely that regardless of how successful his NFL career is, he’ll be ready to give back.
