Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa reportedly has “never been happier” than playing under new Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.
McDaniel, who was hired this offseason after the team let go of Brian Flores, is hoping to help Tagovailoa prove that he can be the quarterback of the future for the Dolphins. McDaniel came to Miami after he spent time as the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.
The Dolphins are trying to set Tagovailoa up for success as he enters his third season in the NFL, and that bodes well for his outlook in the 2022 season.
This offseason, Miami not only brought in a new offensive mind in McDaniel, but it also traded for superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins also brought in receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr., running back Chase Edmonds, running back Raheem Mostert and franchise tagged tight end Mike Gesicki.
With all of those weapons at his disposal and an improved offensive line, Tagovailoa has the best supporting cast in his short time in the NFL.
The Dolphins selected Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he has yet to prove that he can be the team’s long-term answer at the quarterback position.
In two seasons in Miami, Tagovailoa has compiled a 13-8 record as a starter. During the 2021 season, he appeared in 13 games for the Dolphins, making 12 starts and throwing for 2,653 yards and 16 touchdowns.
