Miami Dolphins news: Dolphins agree to deal with 3rd-round draft pick

The Miami Dolphins did not have as many selections to make in the 2022 NFL Draft as they usually do, as they traded away a number of picks to land superstar receiver Tyreek Hill earlier in the offseason.

For that reason, the picks that the Dolphins did make seemed all the more important. One pick was linebacker Channing Tindall.

Tindall played his college ball at the University of Georgia and was selected by the Dolphins with the No. 102 overall pick. It now sounds like he has signed his rookie deal with Miami.

At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, Tindall certainly has the size necessary to be a successful NFL linebacker.

Though he played in four seasons during his collegiate career, he had his most productive season by far in 2021. In 15 games, Tindall recorded 35 solo tackles and 67 total tackles. He added 5.5 sacks and one forced fumble during the season as well.

Though the Dolphins chose to focus primarily on adding offensive talent this offseason, defense certainly has not been an afterthought.

In recent years, it has been the defense that has led the way for the Dolphins. While new Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is certainly known as an offensive mind, the team will need its defense to maintain its high standards if Miami wants to finally end its playoff drought.

In each of the last two seasons, the Dolphins have finished with winning records. However, they have failed to make the playoffs. If the defense can continue being one of the better units in the league and the offense can improve, the playoffs seem highly realistic for the Dolphins next season.

As for Tindall, he’ll surely look to get acclimated to the NFL lifestyle and try to carve out a nice role for himself on his new team.
