Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard’s new deal had his agent David Canter gushing on social media, and he shouted out some key Dolphins figures in the process.

Before the start of the 2021 regular season, Howard had requested a trade out of Miami due to the team’s reluctance to restructure his contract. The Dolphins eventually gave in to Howard’s demands and restructured his deal. The team has now restructured his contract once again.

The 28-year-old Howard is coming off a year in which he was selected to his third Pro Bowl. In 16 games during the 2021 season, he picked off five passes, returning one for a touchdown and also made 50 combined tackles.

That effort marked another strong season for Howard, who had 10 interceptions during the 2020 season. Over his past two seasons, Howard has shown a knack for being around the ball, collecting a total of 36 passes defended during that span.

Such efforts and accolades are definitely what the Dolphins were hoping for when they drafted Howard in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Baylor University. Since coming into the league, Howard has picked off a total of 27 passes.

Howard and the rest of the Dolphins will be led during the 2022 season by a new head coach in Mike McDaniel. Miami has not appeared in the postseason since the 2016 campaign, but it is surely hoping to make it there during the 2022 campaign.

Now that he is surely in a better state of mind with his massive new deal, it will be interesting to watch what Howard can do on the field in 2022.
