Free agent offensive tackle La’el Collins reportedly doesn’t have a visit planned with the Miami Dolphins.
It seems like the Dolphins have their eyes on other possible roster additions.
Collins, a six-year veteran, was let go by the Dallas Cowboys as a cap casualty this offseason. Over six seasons with Dallas, Collins appeared in 74 games, making 71 starts. The 28-year-old has played guard as well as tackle during his time in the NFL.
Collins played in just 12 games during the 2021 season, making 10 starts, but he would certainly help the Dolphins upgrade their offensive line.
Miami’s offensive line allowed 40 sacks in the 2021 season, and former first-round pick Austin Jackson has struggled so much that the team moved him inside to guard. The Dolphins currently have Jesse Davis and Liam Eichenberg as their starting tackles.
The Dolphins could be looking elsewhere, as they are reportedly interested in veteran Cornelius Lucas, who spent the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders.
New Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel will have his work cut out for him if the team can’t improve its offensive line, as that would make things a little tougher on Tua Tagovailoa in his third NFL season.
Miami is hoping to make it to the playoffs next season for the first time since the 2016 campaign. The Dolphins have had two straight winning seasons, but they weren’t able to secure a playoff berth in either year.
While Collins would certainly be a nice addition to the Dolphins’ roster, only time will tell where he ends up signing.
