Report: Dolphins called about WR Christian Kirk before he reached agreement with Jaguars

The Miami Dolphins were apparently interested in wide receiver Christian Kirk before he agreed to a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday.

The 25-year-old Kirk is a talented player and figures to be a key addition for Jacksonville.

Kirk is coming off the most productive season of his four-year NFL career. With the Arizona Cardinals last season, he had 77 receptions for 982 yards and five touchdowns. During his four years in the league, Kirk has 236 receptions to his credit and has scored on 17 of those grabs.

The Dolphins are looking to add some talent on offense to help quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who will be in his third NFL season in 2022.

Last season, Tagovailoa’s main targets were Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki, with the duo combining for 177 receptions during the 2021 campaign.

Veteran DeVante Parker also contributed with 40 receptions and two touchdowns. However, he was only able to stay on the field for 10 games.

With the Jaguars, Kirk will look to continue his personal success and help his new team take a step in the right direction. The Jaguars finished with the NFL’s worst record in the 2021 season, as they went 3-14.

In contrast, the Dolphins finished with a 9-8 record and narrowly missed out on a playoff berth for the second season in a row.

After falling short in the Kirk sweepstakes, the Dolphins will undoubtedly pursue other receiving options this offseason in preparation for the 2022 campaign.
